A few weeks ago I ventured out to Jamaica, Queens to photograph the christening of an adorable little baby, Tom Harris. I arrived at St. Demetrios, a beautiful Greek Orthodox Church, where I was given a brief synopsis of the planned order of events. We would begin in the back of the church where Tom was held by his godmother for a service of prayers. Following this, he would be brought to the front of the church for more prayers before getting undressed and swaddled in a white cloth for the actual baptism. After the priest anointed him with oil, he would be immersed three times into a large basin of water to cleanse him of sin. The entire experience was extremely interesting since I have never been part of this type of baptism. Tom was such a good sport. I know I wouldn't have handled the dunking well if I was being submerged in cold water! One shot I took before he was submerged into the water made me really believe he knew what was coming; his face just looked like he was trying to say "wait, they are going to do what to me?” See the photos below for some highlights of the day!
